water leak

We have had a hot water line to our washer that has leaked since we moved in. Initially we simply didn’t use it. This past week it began leaking even though it was turned off. The “plumber” found out that not only was water pouring our under the laundry room, but at some point in the past the water lines for the kitchen had been removed. As in none, notta, zilch.

For the past two months every last bit of water from our kitchen sink and dishwasher has been simply draining into the crawl space. That explains the musty smell.

We also found out that our only water turn off was in what we thought of as a vacant bit of wooded scrub behind our back fence. Truth be told it is an alleyway. The plumber (actually the brother-in-law of the owners) called the City (actually his sister-in-law who works in the City office)who called the only water department technician who drove out to our house at 9:30 in the evening to show us where to turn off the water (definitely had been consuming a few brewskies,he had). He(the technician) also filled us in on a bit of gossip, being new to the town, we might have otherwise been in ignorance of.

Sometime today we will have all the broken and missing plumbing redone. In the mean time I have a bowl in the kitchen sink to catch any water and we will not run the dishwasher or the washer. This is when I am very glad we are not the owners.

I am going to hate to see next month’s water bill.
