We had another late evening phone call from the Academy last night. This time telling us our son was sick. So were eleven other boys. We needed to pick him up and bring him home. Right then. After a speed clearing of our son’s room my husband went to bring him home. We have been using his room as a guest room and it has become a bit of a catch-all. Once again my room is full of my son’s toys and possessions, the ironing board and a few odd wall shelves that were taken down and never put back up.
Home came my son sporting a 101.5 temp. My husband was told he was 103.5 or so that afternoon. My husband ran to the grocery store for some Sprite, Vernors (the Michigan curer of all ills) and crackers since we had nothing of the sort in the house. As he was shopping, the Academy called and said he would have to return to pick up the medications they forgot to send home with his medications. My husband had to drive back there and wait while they counted out all of his medications pill by pill. He is to return when he has been fever free for twenty four hours but they also wanted him back by Monday before seven am. They are going to have to pick as he won’t be well for twenty four hours by tomorrow.
This morning my son’s fever is down somewhat. he is no longer throwing up, just coughing to beat the band. I have him on the couch with his soft fleece blanket, cough drops, tissue, soda and crackers. He has a stack of books from which to choose.
He is actually reading.
He let me kiss him on the top of his head without pulling away.
He must be sick.
Maybe he will learn to trust me-just a little.
